The Power of Self Reflection

My friends, there was a time in my life when I could not engage in self-reflection probably because of the fear of what I might discover. Looking back on this season of my life and knowing what I know now, it is clear that it was satan’s plan to keep me in bondage.

The Bible tells us in 2 Corinthians 13:5 that “Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith; test yourselves. Do you not realize that Christ Jesus is in you—unless, of course, you fail the test?”

Self-reflection is a powerful process that allows us to:

  • Examine our past – This can sometimes be very hard particularly if we have a checkered past (like I did). Yet, it has tremendous benefit, if we are able to acknowledge that we have failed but God is able to redeem our past failures and turn them into opportunities that would glorify Him.
  • Live a life of purpose in our Current state – Daily reflection allows us to examine our day, make godly choices rather than just do life carelessly.
  • Be thankful – We live in an awareness of God’s presence in our situation, circumstances and events and this awareness presents an opportunity to give God the praise.

Christ follower, prayerfully ask God to give you the grace to practice self-reflection in your Christian walk. If you are currently not a Christ follower, the most important self-reflection you need to consider is ‘are you a child of God’?  If not, Jesus is calling you today – come.

All glory to God!
