Take a moment and reflect on a time when you gave someone a gift and it wasn’t put to good use. I am sure you were not motivated to give another gift. I am thankful that we serve an awesome God who gives us His gifts abundantly so that in all things and at all times, we have all that we need to abound in every good work. (2 Corinthians 9:8).
As Christ followers, we have been given different gifts: motivational, spiritual or ministry, for the sole purpose of playing a part in the expansion of God’s Kingdom through the body of Christ. In the process, we are fulfilling our purpose here on earth, especially the church in which we have been planted.
However, if we are not embracing and using these gifts as God intended, we are walking in disobedience. To exercise them, we must:
- Identify what the gifts are – Ask God in prayer to show us what our gifts are. God wants us to serve Him, joyfully and passionately with them. In His sovereignty, He will bestow us with gifts that we enjoy. For example, if you are a kind person by nature, it is probable for God to position you in the Body of Christ to manifest your gift of kindness.
- Step out in your gift by faith – It is one thing to know our gifts. It’s another to step out in faith to exercise them. From my experience, fear is one of the tools satan uses to hinder us from exercising our gift. We must fight the spirit of fear by prayerfully meditating on God’s Word of comfort to us: “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” (Isaiah 41:10)
- Use our gifts to bring God the glory – As we exercise our gift, we must always remember that “it is a gift” we did not earn. Hence, we must use it for the glory of God, not to abuse or take credit for it. The Word of God warns us that God will not share His glory with any man. (Isaiah 42:8).
Christ follower, identify and exercise your gift for the glory of God. If you are currently not a Christ follower, come and taste today the goodness of God.
All glory to God!
