Daily clothing ourselves with humility

My friends, throughout scripture, we are warned to beware of the spirit of pride and I have often wondered why. The reason is because pride is rooted in the fall of man and satan himself fell from grace because of pride.

What is also very interesting with the sin of pride is that it creeps in on the very best of us without even knowing and hence the word of God in James 4:10 warns to “Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up”.

Clothing ourselves with humility daily requires us to:

  • Do life with God daily– When we start to think we can direct our own lives, then we are being proud. Everything we need to do life is found in Christ and His word. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding. (Proverbs 9:10).
  • Intentionally watch and pray against the attributes of pride – These attributes are subtle and can sometimes manifest themselves when we wallow in self-pity to draw attention to self, think we are better than others, gossip about others and so on.

Christ follower, remember, in our Christian walk, we will not be perfect but as we prayerfully ask God to draw us closer to Him daily, we will sin less. If you are currently not a Christ follower, humility is the fear of the Lord – come.

All glory to God!
