Watch and Pray

My friends, reflect on a time when you thought you had overcome certain emotions like anger or other situations in your life that you are not proud of and then suddenly, you are faced with the reality of that situation again and you totally lost it.  I know, because I have been there and I often wonder why?

The word of God reminds us in Matthew 26:41 to “Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.” God knew (because He knows the beginning, present and future) that you and I will stumble hence He made a way of escape for us through the provision of his word so we can acquire and apply it to our daily lives.

Satan is very crafty and he often attacks our mind when we are most vulnerable – remember the battle is fought in the mind and manifested in the physical and hence we need to be:

  • Alert in the knowledge of God’s word – as we study the word of God, our faith and knowledge increase. With this, we can locate a particular scripture for a particular situation that will enable us to stand when Satan comes like a flood to attack our mind.  Everything we need to be successful in life is available in the Bible.
  • Alert in prayer and thanksgiving – We cannot afford to be careless – we need to intentionally prepare our mind in prayer and thanksgiving. Thanksgiving for the power of God that has delivered us from that situation in the first place and prayer that God will put His shield of protection around us so that when we are confronted with the same situation, we can react with God’s wisdom not ours.

Christ follower, daily watch and pray, so that you do not fall into the trap of the enemy and when you do, take corrective action. If you are currently not a Christ follower, Jesus is calling – come.

All glory to God!
