The last fruit of the Spirit we are focusing on this week is SELF-CONTROL.
I don’t know about you but I have enjoyed learning and challenging myself daily to walk in these fruits found in Galatians 5:22-23 – “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law”.
My friends, I recall a time in my life when I was struggling so hard with the spirit of unforgiveness. I would hash out old wounds and work myself into a state of anger and depression. I did not have self-control to change this situation and it was awful. I began to cry to the Lord to take this defeating feeling away.
The Bible passage that gave me hope is a simple one, and I recommend you commit to memory – Philippians 4:13 – “I can do all this through him who gives me strength”.
To receive the power of self-control from God, we must:
- Acknowledge that we cannot depend upon our own strength – Only Christ can give us all the help we need. I encourage you to meditate on this scripture when faced with the struggles of life (Philippians 4:13) and you will experience the help of God. You will find yourself meeting challenges with new mental power and carrying burdens (that otherwise defeat you) with ease.
Christ follower, choose daily to find your strength in Christ alone. If you are currently not a Christ follower, come to Jesus today and He will give you the self-control you need to do life.
All glory to God!
