The Value of a Gentle Spirit

Our focus this week is on the fruit of GENTLENESS.

My friends, I recall a time when this fruit was not demonstrated in my life. I was always eager to give people around me my piece of mind when in a frustrating situation.

We are all sometimes prone to this type of thinking – however, they are the types of decoy that Satan uses to distract us from enjoying a closer relationship with God and each other.

Being filled with the Spirt of God does not eliminate us from sinful thoughts but it is what we do with those thoughts that determine whether or not we are bearing fruits for Christ.

The fruit of GENTLENESS requires a daily proactive approach. (Proverbs 15:1) provides us with a road map on how we can daily benefit from a gentle spirit:

  • Choose to respond with gentle answers when a situation, circumstances or events provoke us – the process I have used both personally and in Biblical counselling which has accomplished most impressive results, is simply:

(a) committing a passage of scripture to memory for use in such situations;

(b) physically clasping my hands together and experiencing the motion which helps me rephrase my thoughts so they don’t come out in anger or harshly.

Christ follower, find your own proactive ways of walking in the Spirit of GENTLENESS this week and throughout the year.  It will take practice – but remember, the Christian walk requires making daily intentional choices. If you are currently not a Christ follower, Jesus wants to give you the Spirit of Gentleness – come.

All glory to God!
